Holy Week 2020
Easter Sunday
Christ is risen! It was lovely to have everyone together for our first ever live-streamed service!
You can watch the service again (skip forward 18 minutes past the bell ringing to reach the start of the service).
You can also listen to the quarter peal rung at Easter 2014 by The Gransden Bell Ringers.
You don't need a Facebook account to view it (click 'not now' or 'cancel' when prompted to log in if you don't have an account).
Easter Services
You can watch or read the Holy Week services again with the links near the bottom of this page:
Maundy Thursday, 9th April
7pm – ‘Around the Table’ – a reflective service praying with the symbols of Jesus’ final night with His friends. You might like to have ready:
- A table cloth; a bowl of water; a Bible; a candle and matches; a piece of bread and a glass of wine/juice.
Good Friday, 10th April
11am – Virtual Lego Church – a bit of fun involving a house-based treasure-hunt.
All are very welcome, but please email me directly for Zoom invite/password. If you own some, you might like to have ready:
- Some Lego!
2pm – ‘The Wood of the Cross’ - a contemplative service of readings and prayer at the foot of the cross. You might like to have ready with you:
- A cross.
Holy Saturday, 11th April
9pm – Easter Vigil – a shortened service to mark the move from darkness to light, from despair to triumph. You might like to have ready with you:
- A candle and matches; something to make a noise (whistle, cymbals, saucepan lids!)
Easter Sunday, 12th April
10am -*LIVE-streamed* Easter Morning Communion – a simple (hopefully!) service in your priest’s garden to greet the dawn of hope. You might like to have ready with you:
- Something sparkling and/or chocolatey with which to celebrate!
Holy Week at Home
Day-by-day prayers, readings and activities for home worship, with grateful thanks The Revd Sally Prendergast for preparing and sharing these.
Compline is a service of peaceful night prayer for 'completing' each day, for leaving ourselves and our concerns in the hands of God as we sleep. You might like to use this short service each night of Holy Week.
Holy Saturday
"Moving from darkness to light", a short Easter Vigil.
Please watch the recorded service and, if you would like to join in the hymns you might like to print the service sheet.
And if you are up through the hours of this night, here is a wonderful programme of talks & reflections to keep you company.
Good Friday
The Wood of the Cross, a quiet service for the afternoon of Good Friday. Please follow the recordings below with the service sheet.
When I survey the wondrous cross sung by St Andrew's Cathedral & Choir, Sydney.
A recording of Rachel's service, with images.
Crucifixus by Antonio Lotti, performed by Tenebrae.
Maundy Thursday
A meditative service for Maundy Thursday.
Please follow the service using the service sheet, and the recorded YouTube videos. The service is split into five short videos, and the playlist here will play all five in succession. Once the video is playing, press 'f' on a computer to make it full screen.
A transcript of the reflection is also available.
(Note that the video continues into the darkness, after a slight pause, with the Dismissal Gospel. Please be aware that once this reading finishes, YouTube may continue to play other unrelated videos.)

Keeping Holy Week Holy
Part of the way in which we can keep this week as a holy week, is to remember those who are most vulnerable at this time.
